LAKI is an American gospel rapper and poet, who came up in the 1990’s & very early 2000’s, as a lyricist & hip hop artist who was more known for rapping in school lunch cafeteria’s & free-styling & back-pack rapping in the south side part of Queens NYC. traveling to different parts of n.y.c (Harlem, Brooklyn, Bronx, etc.) his talents became more recognizable. relocating to Florida & becoming saved by his LORD & Savior, he became a even larger body of work, & has coined the phrase Psalmatry (As his staple & catch-phrase to what some might called Gospel Spoken-Word.) He has Originated a lot of trends in his time on the platform, but this is his more recognized theme that sets him apart from everything & other different genre’s in the music scene. Psalmatry Isn’t rap, it isn’t R&B, it isn’t Hip Hop, It Isn’t Country, Or Pop, Or even Reggae, but has a different sound all together.

A hard-shelled sensitive, Intelligent Outspoken soul, who kind of controls a room & environment when given the floor & opportunity to enlighten others.. there seems to be a lot to learn from this individual, & still much more he can learn in-turn since humble & open-mindedness seems to be his go to in most conversations. His mission Is now to help others alike & different from himself overcome goals & obstacles faced in becoming a christian, & walking as a true believer. not so much as to master perfection outside of grace, but to master & help others like him master leaning on the Master & following CHRIST to be perfected.

~ LAKI

EARLY LIFE

LAKI was moved from N.C to N.Y at the age of 4 years old, he had trouble socializing’ adapting from the small country to a big city. (for a 4-year being surrounded by family & familiar faces to being injected to the hectic life of NYC in the early 1990 school system was a big adjustment to say the least.) He was kicked out of every school, became disruptive & soon was expelled from every school in queens sending him away to either a school in Massachusetts or a school in Brooklyn for the criminally insane and children with severe behavior problems soon on there way to detention facilities & worse. The choice was clear, to be sent away to the reform & lock-down padded-room school in his teenage years in Massachusetts, but before we get far in details of his teenage affairs, we will continue in his adolescence. It seems outside of rap, the bright youngster was also known for street dealings, and joined his first gang at the age of 10 called N.W.O. (N***** Watching Over), he was involved in gang activities at a early age, leaving from public schools like P.S. 30, P.S. 80, & P.S.179, to going to self contained classes like dooruh unit where he engaged in even more physical fights, and violent altercations to P9 where he became involved in his first gang activity, the waters continued to simmer. After P9 he found music, and wrote his first rap for a security guard at the age 11, who worked at P4. the security guard, (Mr. Gums) who the youngster was familiar with (due to always being in some trouble,) had many affiliations with many industry artist (including Killah Priest from Wu-tang, son-see from Onyx, & LL cool J) presumably. Truancy officers were no strangers to the youngster, and many grew to like him. security officers from his high school days like the one featured on his soundproof compilation, (who is also a gospel artist now himself Mr. TJ, to another who worked in his grandmother’s building by Rochdale housing in queens, outside of his older brother’ the youngster didn’t see many positive male role-models. So music shot at the highest of importance seeing the security guard invite Killah priest (sporting some timberlands, a graduation-robe & some dreads) to a school graduation that the youngster attended but was too young to be apart of. Soon leaving there and attending P 177Q, a higher level grade than the one he attended previously he started to blossom. but still hadn’t come out of the emotional trauma suffered by trials of childhood, behavior was still a problematic issue.

Fast-forwarding coming out of the school in canton mass, & re-enrolling at Martin Van Buren High School, the youngster became enthusiastic about life again.. feeling the freedoms of not being in a place where he had to ask for permission to speak, ask for permission to get off his bed by raising his hand, & having someone watching on a video camera intercom or nearby paid so-called professional give permission to him to use a restroom to move his bowels with the door cracked 6-inches at all times, & being watched by a (male\female) employee while you shower was refreshing to say the least. He could finally be a kid again, & run wild. talk to girls & flirt when he wanted, (& not date & have secret affairs with grown women & teachers behind the facilitators backs who ran the facility). Back to normal life in New York where he could spread his wings, cut classes’ leave without permission if he wanted’ & even take the city buses back & forth to school, he found his first high school love, crushed on the dating scene & made the entire school aware of his artistry & lyrical capabilities. soon following that, he relocated to Florida, following the heart breaking news of him having to relocate again, after just reconnecting with his friends & all that was familiar’ a certain sense of familiarity was introduced which subconsciously felt a lot like when he was first moved to NYC from NC… (he had visited many different states, including district D.C. Baltimore, VA, Jersey & every other state on the east coast excluding Maine..) but something was different about moving his entire life to a place where he had no history after just coming back from a place for 15-16 months, & being gone for a year & 3 months. but little did he know, while he was a away in 2001, (in the very state of Massachusetts, one of the places a plane’ may have been took to crash into the twin towers) his mom was starting her new job on 9/11/2001, (her very first day) in the vicinity of the world trade center on the 2nd floor & watching all the mayhem happen, escaping by the grace of GOD. So lets just say after a year & some change later, it was time for a change. what the talented young LAKI had once hated, would be the very place he would get his new start. though Florida being very different in weather, & getting used to slower pace of life, LAKI adapted quick and started treating high school no different than the one he had previously attended. like spring break, & this time it was all new faces, women, and attention. but trouble & breaking the rules in new environments where once in New York the teenager fit right in, along with 1000’s of other kids who fit his description & devious behavior, here he was emerged with children & people who spoke nothing like him’ dressed nothing like him & didn’t desire the same things he desired for himself. trying to catch up with the years he wasn’t allowed to be a kid & teenager was finally catching up with him’ with great punishment that came along with it. (as if all the detention facilities & hospital psych out & in patient stays from his childhood wasn’t enough. but rather than exhaust all the many runs-in’s with the law, & combative experiences with all the youngster came across, this is where the story turns.. somewhere in the ages of 24-25, in the passing of the Myspace to Facebook era, the youngster was found in a county cell in jail, where after shedding tears under a dingy jail blanket for once again being in jail & feeling like a failure yet again. he was in jail for a few weeks playing spades & something tugged his heart to come out on the rec-yard for more than basketball. & there the true call to GOD was place on his heart, after coming back his cell & opening a bible borrowed from a cell-mate, this time the youngster fell in tears, NOT because of the crime he had been arrested for.. but this time for this reason, & these words …

“NOW I REJOICE, not that you were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance. For ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that you might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation, not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” 2 Corinthians 7:9 these words, though the youngster did not know at the time, were the apostle Paul’s words to the church of Corinth, but at the time in that small cell, it felt like those words were GOD’s very words coming off the page, & speaking to LAKI” & i quote as he would say. Now he was no longer sorry for breaking man’s law, but he sorrowed for breaking GOD’s law & the very heart of the one who formed him. so from that very day, his passion for GOD was ignited, & as scripture says, no one comes to the Son unless the Father draws him. And he definitely felt drawn through out his whole life, seeds have always been planted, he will testify’ but that day a harvest was gathered spiritually. As he explains, its been an uphill battle in his christian walk, but he wouldn’t trade it for the world. fast-forward to current-day, & present time’ he presents to you, His Testimony & ScreenPlay, Without Further Ado..
